Below you’ll find a few of the spring songs we’ve been using in our Intellidance® classes. The videos were created by the founder of Intellidance®, Jessica Baudin-Griffin; if you’re in class, you’ll find that I add my own personal flare to each of them. Enjoy!
Two Little Boats
We’re using this rhyme in our Babies class. In this lap play rhyme, we’re working on our babies vestibular system and head righting, which teaches our babies how to align their head when moving through space. This is done by moving our babies forward and backward, side to side, and back and forth. During class, I sing this rhyme to the tune of Six Little Ducks.
Mr. Rabbit
Mr. Rabbit is used in our Babies and Tykes class. During this finger play poem, our little ones are learning about beat, which we establish by bouncing Mr. Rabbit around. They also learn about their body parts, which supports their body awareness; around two years of age most children will be aware of their main body parts (head, shoulder, eyes, ears, etc), so this rhyme will help to develop that skill. If you’re in class with me, you’ll notice that Jessica uses a different beat than I do; both beats are good, and you can play around with the beat until you find one that you and your little one like best!
The Bear Went Over the Mountain
Over, under, around and through… these vocabulary words are important for understanding where we are in relationship to other people and things in the space we move in. The action song, The Bear When Over the Mountain, in used in our Tots and Kids classes. It uses these words in a playful way to support our little ones understanding of the concept.
